Rhinebeck, New York – On November 17, 2015 at approximately 12:20 a.m., New York State Police from the Rhinebeck barracks arrested Michael J. Gonzales, 35 years old, of Brooklyn, New York, for Assault 2nd Degree, a Class D Felony, Resisting Arrest, Obstructing Governmental Administration 2nd Degree, both Misdemeanors, and other vehicle and traffic violations.

On November 16th at approximately 11:00 p.m., Troopers were contacted by a local Rhinebeck business reporting an unwanted subject at their establishment. The business manager reported that an unknown man acted suspiciously and failed to adhere to the businesses policy by providing identification. Management requested that the man leave the business following a disturbance and police were contacted for assistance. The subject was not immediately located by responding officers as he had left the area.

Approximately 1 hour later, Troopers stopped a vehicle traveling on Montgomery Street in Rhinebeck after noticing that the vehicle did not have license plates displayed. The driver of the vehicle, Gonzales, became agitated and at first refused to provide police with identification. Upon providing the investigating member his name and date of birth, it was discovered that he was wanted by the New York City Department of Environmental Protection. While attempting to place Gonzales in custody, he actively resisted arrest. During the struggle, a Trooper sustained injuries and was transported to Northern Hospital for an evaluation.

Following an investigation, it was discovered that Gonzales was the suspicious subject police were looking for after the confrontation at the Beekman Arms Inn.

Gonzales was arraigned at the Village of Rhinebeck Court and remanded to the Dutchess County Jail in lieu of $50,000 cash bail or $100,000 bond. He is due to appear in the Village of Rhinebeck Court on November 18, 2015.
