Obituary, John D. Devlin

 

BEEKMAN – John D. Devlin, 64, an area resident for 40 years, formerly of the Bronx, died unexpectedly at home on November 13, 2015.

Born in the Bronx on November 30, 1950, he was the son of the late John J. and Kathleen (Rice) Devlin. John honorably served in the Army Reserves. John was a Safety Director for the National Utility Workers Union of America for over 40 years and was a career welder with Con Edison.

John devoted his life to taking care of others, especially his family and friends. He was an avid hunter, a football, baseball, and softball coach for many years, and also enjoyed playing golf. He was a dedicated fan of the NY Yankees and the Dallas Cowboys.

On August 6, 1977, John married Cathleen Burns Devlin, his best friend and the love of his life. In addition to his wife, he is survived by his children, Jeff Higham and his wife Sandra of Poughquag, Mary Gotsch of Poughquag, Doreen Higham of Union Vale, Patricia Tompkins of Union Vale, John Higham and his wife Patricia of LaGrange, Jack Devlin and his wife Deborah of Pleasant Valley, and Sandra Tenhove of Port Jervis; his grandchildren, Woody, Jessica, Denis, Christine, Jeff, Billy, Casey, Lauren, Janna, Sarah, Madison, Liam, Joseph, Kaitlyn, and Meghan; his great-grandchildren, Haillee, Payden, Spencer, Felicity, and Audrey; his siblings, Frances Mahoney, Patricia Blakesly, and Edward Devlin; and several nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews.

Calling hours will be held on Tuesday from 2-4 and 7-9 pm at  895 Route 82, Hopewell Junction. The Mass of Christian Burial will be offered on Wednesday at 10 am at Saint Kateri Church, 1925 Route 82, LaGrangeville followed by burial at St. Denis Cemetery with military honors.
