Ulster County Sheriff’s Report

ARRESTS: Members of the ULSTER REGIONAL GANG ENFORCEMENT NARCOTICS TEAM (URGENT) report the arrest of two Esopus residents subsequent to a drug sales investigation.

Earlier this year, URGENT began investigating numerous civilian complaints and other information relative to suspected drug activity at 206 Gurney Street in Port Ewen. Subsequent to an investigation, including purchases of heroin from the residence, a search warrant was obtained and executed in the early morning of 11/13/15. Numerous diverted pharmaceutics, MDMA (ecstasy), over one ounce of marihuana, packaging materials, scales and approximately $2,200 in cash were seized. The homeowner, Susan A. Whalen, 48, was charged with the felony of Criminal Nuisance in the 1st Degree and the misdemeanors of Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in the 7th Degree and Criminally Using Drug Paraphernalia in the 2nd Degree.

Another resident, Matthew A. Felton, Jr., 35, was also charged with the felony of Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in the 3rd Degree (2 counts) and the misdemeanors of Criminally Using Drug Paraphernalia in the 2nd Degree, Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in the 7th Degree (3 counts), Obstructing Governmental Administration in the 2nd Degree, Resisting Arrest and Criminal Possession of Marihuana in the 5th Degree.

Ms. Whalen was released to reappear in Esopus Town Court at a later time. Mr. Felton was arraigned in Esopus Town Court and remanded without bail to the Ulster County Jail.

The following agencies have members assigned to URGENT: Ulster County Sheriff’s Office, Town of Woodstock Police, Town of Lloyd Police, Town of Shandaken Police, Ulster County Probation, Town of Plattekill Police, Village of Ellenville Police, Town of Marlborough Police, Town of New Paltz Police and United States Department of Homeland Security Investigations.
