Carmel Man Charged With DWI in Patterson

Putnam County Sheriff Donald B. Smith reports the arrest of a Carmel man on a charge of DWI.

On October 29, 2015 at 7:44 a.m., Deputy Sheriff Alexander Ruhe responded to a report of a property damage auto accident on Route 311 in the Town of Patterson. Upon arrival, the deputy determined that Joseph W. Braun, IV, of 29 Fowler Avenue, Carmel had lost control of his vehicle and driven off the roadway. The deputy determined that Mr. Braun was intoxicated. The deputy arrested Mr. Braun and charged him with Driving While Intoxicated, a misdemeanor, after the man failed a series of standardized field sobriety tests. Mr. Braun was processed at the Putnam County Correctional Facility, where his charge was upgraded Aggravated Driving While Intoxicated, a misdemeanor. He will be required to appear in the Town of Patterson Justice Court to answer the charge at a future date.

If found guilty of the misdemeanor charge, the defendant could face up to a year in jail and a fine of up to $1,000.00.
