SENIOR HOUSING FOCUS OF SEMINARS

Are you planning on or thinking about moving?  It can be one of the most stressful events in your life.  Here at the Office for the Aging, we receive hundreds of calls each year from people wondering what their options are when the time comes to make a move.  Our Senior Housing brochure is one of our most popular, so we understand there are a lot of questions about the many types of senior housing.

At this year’s morning of Senior Seminars coming up on November 5th, experts will guide you through the many different types of senior housing, from independent living options right through long-term care facilities.  You’ll learn whether you qualify for subsidized housing, how continuing care communities work, what an echo cottage is and so much more.  Now is the time to gather as much information as possible and have your questions answered early to ease this difficult transition.  Even if you are just thinking about a move in the future, this is the time to find out about what is out there.  Representatives from senior housing facilities are invited to attend to help answer questions from seniors during the two open forum sections.

The morning will kick off at 9:30 a.m. with a presentation by Anne Saylor from the Dutchess County Planning Department.  Anne will look at the types of senior housing that are available now in Dutchess County and what is planned for the future.

At 10:30 a.m., an open forum on Independent Living Options for seniors will take place.  Each of the different options will be touched on, followed by questions and answers from the audience.

At 11:30 a.m., the open forum will continue with the focus shifting to Long Term Care Options.  Nursing Homes, Assistive Living, Continuing Care and other facilities will be discussed.

All three seminars will all take place at the New Hackensack Reformed Church, on Route 376, just south of the Dutchess County Airport on Thursday morning, November 5th.  To register for one or all of the senior housing seminars, call the Office for the Aging at (845) 486-2555.

CAREGIVERS SAVE THE DATE

Some of the topics to be covered at the seminar are: Care Team Building, Legal & Financial Solutions; Role of the Ombudsman and the Power of Music Therapy. There will be plenty of time for questions and concerns from the attendees.  Continental breakfast and lunch are included.  To make a reservation, call the Alzheimer’s Association at (845) 471-2655.
