Randy Miles, a 57-year-old resident of Kent, Connecticut admitted in court Wednesday he caused the death of a Columbia County woman in a hit-and-run accident in Amenia earlier this year.

Miles, Standing before Dutchess County Court Judge Stephen Greller,  entered a guilty plea to leaving the scene of a fatal auto accident, a felony.

Miles fatally struck Concetta Eastman of Copake  as she was entering her vehicle, which was parked on the edge of the road on Bog Hollow Road near the Connecticut border at approximately 8 p.m. on March 19 2015. Miles then fled the scene in a dark-colored pickup truck.

In exchange for his plea, Miles was promised a sentence of 2 to 6 years in prison. The maximum sentence for the charge is 2 1/3 to 7 years, Segal said.

The charge to which Miles pleaded is the same level and carries the same sentence as vehicular manslaughter, which requires prosecutors to prove a driver was intoxicated or impaired by drugs.

Miles turned himslef in to investigators at the Dutchess County Sheriff’s Departmentfive days after accident.

Miles admitted he had consumed alcohol. But because of the elapsed time between the accident and his arrest, it was impossible to prove he was intoxicated when he struck Eastman.

Miles remains free on bail and is scheduled to be sentenced on Dec. 3.
