SERINO PARTNERS WITH LOCAL LAW ENFORCEMENT AND NONPROFIT TO PROACTIVELY COMBAT HEROIN EPIDEMIC

Who: NYS Senator Sue Serino, Local; East Fishkill Police Department; Drug Crisis in Our Backyard

What:  Shed the Meds and Naxolone Training

When: Saturday, October 17, 2015; 9:30 am to 12:30 pm

Where: East Fishkill Town Hall;  330 Route 376 Hopewell Junction, NY

Because over half of young people who inject heroin report the abuse of prescription pain killers before starting to use the deadly drug, Senator Sue Serino is partnering with local law enforcement to take a proactive approach to combat the heroin epidemic by getting unused prescription drugs off of our streets.

On Saturday, October 17th, Senator Serino will be hosting a free ‘Shed the Meds!’ event from 9:30 am until noon. During that time, at the East Fishkill Town Hall, members of the community can drop off unused or expired prescription medications where the East Fishkill Police Department will safely dispose of them.

Senator Serino said, “I know everyone’s weekends are jam-packed this time of year, but while you’re out and about, all you have to do is drive up and drop off your unwanted prescription drugs and we take care of the rest. It’s a simple step that can make a huge difference in our community by helping to keep prescription drugs out of our kids’ hands.”  drugs.

On the same day and in the same location, Senator Serino will be partnering with Drug Crisis in Our Backyard to host a FREE Naloxone Overdose Prevention Training.  With Naloxone, an overdose can be reversed by blocking heroin or other opioids in the nervous system for 30 to 90 minutes—giving first responders and medical personnel they time they need to potentially save a life. I hope you will consider joining us so that you can be prepared to save a life in the event of an overdose emergency. Just pre-register by emailing ssal@drugcrisisinourbackyard.com or call 914-582-8384.

Members of the community and local media are invited to attend.
