Obituary, Jolanthe “Martha” Cordes

 

Jolanthe “Martha” Cordes, 102 years young, passed away at her home in Sherman, CT on Tuesday evening, September 29, 2015. Born on March 21, 1913 in New York City, she was the daughter of Albert and Martha (Kaufmann) Haeussler. On November 26, 1955 she married Raymond C. Cordes in New York City. Mrs. Cordes worked as a nurse at St. Vincent’s Hospital, NYC and later as a corporate nurse for the Chevron Oil Corporation.
Mrs. Cordes has been a resident of Sherman since 1970, having previously resided in Riverside, NY and then New Fairfield, CT, and was a member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Sherman, CT. Mrs. Cordes loved flowers; her favorite was red roses. Mrs. Cordes is predeceased by her husband, who passed away August 9, 1998, but she is survived by her many friends. Friends may call at the Horn & Thomes, Inc. Funeral Home, 83 East Main Street, Pawling, NY Friday, October 2nd 5-7 PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, Oct. 3rd at 10 AM at Holy Trinity Catholic Church, Sherman, CT; burial will follow in Sherman North Cemetery, Sherman.
