ALL HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS ARE INVITED TO THE DOVER HIGH SCHOOL CLUB FAIR TOMORROW FROM 6:30-8:30 PM. ENTER A RAFFLE FOR FREE YANKEE TICKETS FOR THEIR SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER 26TH GAME.

1. Today is a “B” Day.

2. Happy fourth day of Red Ribbon Week! Today’s theme is “shade out drugs” Hope everyone shades out the influence today. today!! Each morning this week, you will get a new drug fact!  Today’s drug fact is: Flashbacks are a strange but relatively common experience of LSD users. Suddenly without warning a few days or even a year later, the brain can produce feelings and thoughts that replay the effects of being on the drug. In some people these flashbacks can occur over and over again. Don’t forget tomorrow’s theme is: “PUT A CAP ON DRUGS” Wear your favorite team’s cap!

3. Senior Honor Society will meet today during 5th period in Ms. Murray’s room 1043.

4. Reminder to all Junior Honor Society members – Election of officers will be next week. If you are running for office, get your essays to Mrs. Cleaveland by Monday.

5. Attention Seniors – Senior Portrait Retakes will be on October 15th and 16th. You must call Lifetouch to schedule an appointment at 1-800-333-2560.

6. Optimum is sponsoring the 8th Annual Hispanic Heritage Essay Contest. The contest is open to middle and high school students. There is an opportunity to win a $2,500 scholarship, a laptop computer, a desktop computer or an e-reader. The deadline is November 2nd. Please stop by the guidance office for more information.

7. Middle school Chess Club is open to all middle school students will start today in Mrs. Kaan’s room 1095. All middle school students are welcome.

8. A representative from the following schools will be visiting this week: Lasell College today at 9:30 in the guidance conference room, Tompkins-Cortland Community College Friday at 9 am in the guidance conference room, Mercy College Friday during lunches and Springfield College Friday at 1:15 pm in the guidance conference room. Please stop by the guidance office to set up an appointment or if you have any questions!

9. Community Service Opportunity – The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society’s Light The Night Walk. Our Dutchess County Walk is on October 17th at Vassar College in Poughkeepsie, NY. The Walk serves to raise money for blood cancer research and improve the lives of patients and their families. All volunteers will be provided with community service hours. Their families are also more than welcome to volunteer! Please stop by the community service office for more information!

10. Attention high school students – Yearbooks are now on sale. Order forms will be sent home next week but if you would like a head start see Ms. Wool for information.

11. There will be an interest meeting for all girls interested in playing JV or Varsity basketball today during the beginning of 6th period in Ms. Krieger’s room.

12. The next Middle School Art Club meeting will be on Wednesday, September 29th in room 1144. The sign up sheet is located on the bulletin board across from the middle school band room. Space is limited to 20 students so sign up soon! Only students who sign up may attend this meeting.

13. The VFW in Dover is offering two scholarships for students at Dover Middle and High School. The “Voice of Democracy” is open to students in grades 9-12. The theme is “My Vision for America.” The “Patriot’s Pen” contest is available to students in 6, 7, and 8th grades. The theme is “What Freedom Means to Me”. The deadline for both essays in November 1st. Pick up applications and information in the high school guidance office.

14. The 13th Annual Black College Fair will be held tonight from 6-8 pm at Poughkeepsie High School. The event will be held in the cafeteria. Stop by the guidance office if you have any questions.

15. SAT Word of the Day is ENFRANCHISE. The word means give voting rights.

16. Attention Dover High School! The Dover High School Drama Club is considering HAIRSPRAY as our musical production this year in March 2016! We will be having a HS Drama Club interest meeting on Thursday, October 1st from 2-3:30 pm. We will be working on vocal and dance techniques in the auditorium. No need to sign up, just show up! This is NOT an audition! Please show up promptly at 2 pm so we can take full advantage of the time we have to get to know each other and learn some awesome music and great dance moves! All students who are interested in joining high school drama club this year are welcome and encouraged to attend! Diversity is out goal! See you all October 1st!
