New York City man arrested following joint investigation

Ossining, New York – On September 22, 2015, New York State Police Bureau of Criminal Investigation from the Hawthorne barracks arrested Lavar Thomas, 36 years old, of New York, New York, for Assault 3rd Degree, a Class A Misdemeanor, and Harassment 2nd Degree, a Violation.

In May of 2015, Troopers were contacted by the New York State Department of Corrections and Community Supervision Office of Special Investigations to investigate an allegation of excessive force used by a correction officer. Following a joint investigation conducted by the State Police and the DOCCS Office of Special Investigations, it was discovered that Thomas, a correction officer at the Sing Sing Correctional Facility, struck a male inmate several times causing minor physical injury without provocation.

Thomas was arraigned before the Village of Ossining Court and released on his own recognizance. He is due to reappear before the Village of Ossining Court on October 20, 2015.
