Join the Pine Plains Free Library in Pine Plains, NY on the 1st weekend in October as we pay homage to our bootlegging past.

On Friday Oct 2, 2015 at 7:00 pm at the Pine Plains Presbyterian Church, 3039 Church Street: Bootlegging in the Hudson Valley” a presentation by Eleanor Charwat, a Dutchess County native who has a love of local history. Ms. Charwat has been a college administrator, a teacher, a local politician, and a community volunteer. She became interested in bootlegging in the Hudson Valley while doing research for a book she was writing about her father, Nathaniel Rubin, who practiced law in Poughkeepsie for 58 years beginning in 1931. Free. Refreshments will be served.

On Saturday Oct 3, 2015 at the Pine Plains Lions Pavilion starting at 2:00 pm: An Afternoon of Prohibition-era themed activities. Distillery tastings & food. Win a ride in a vintage car. Learn to dance the Charleston to antique gramophone records. 4:00 pm:Women Bootleggers”, a skit performed by Theatre on the Road and sponsored by the Friends of the Pine Plains Library. 6:00 pm: Music of the Roaring Twenties by Donald Sosin and his Band, with a Charleston Dance and Costume Contest. BYOB. Light fare provided. Period attire is encouraged but casual dress is welcomed.
