Dover High School Daily Announcements Monday September 21st 2015

 

MONDAY, SEPTEMBER 21, 2015

 

1. Today is an “A” Day.

2. Happy first day of Red Ribbon Week! Today’s theme is “pair up against drugs” Hope everyone has a partner to team up against drugs with!! Each morning this week, you will get a new drug fact! Today’s drug fact is: Driving drugged is dangerous but the specific drugs differ depending on how they act in the brain. For example, marijuana can slow reaction time, impair judgment of time and distance and decrease motor coordination. Don’t forget tomorrow’s theme is: “sock it to drugs” Wear a pair of crazy socks!

3. Senior Honor Society will meet Thursday during 5th period in Ms. Murray’s room 1043.

4. Scrub Club will meet Wednesday after school in Ms. Murray’s room 1043. New members welcome!

5. Attention Seniors – Senior Portrait Retakes will be on October 15th and 16th. You must call Lifetouch to schedule an appointment at 1-800-333-2560.

6. Community Service volunteers are needed to help out at the Wingdale Elementary Science night on October 8th from 5:30-8:30 pm. Sign up with Mrs. Cleaveland or Mrs. Conklin.

7. Middle school Chess Club is open to all middle school students will start this Thursday in Mrs. Kaan’s room 1095. All middle school students are welcome.

8. A representative from the following schools will be visiting this week: SUNY Potsdam today during lunches, Cazenovia College Wednesday during lunches, Lasell College Thursday at 9:30 in the guidance conference room, Tompkins-Cortland Community College Friday at 9 am in the guidance conference room, Mercy College Friday during lunches and Springfield College Friday at 1:15 pm in the guidance conference room. Please stop by the guidance office to set up an appointment or if you have any questions!

9. There will be a high school Student Council meeting today after school in Ms. Krieger’s room.

10. Community Service applications to work at Wingdale Elementary are now available on the Community Service Bulletin Board by the high school main office or from Mrs. Cleaveland.

11. Attention all boys interested in playing JV and Varsity Basketball – there will be a meeting 6th period tomorrow, Tuesday, September 22nd in Ms. Krieger’s room.

12. Cosplay this week is in the computer lab. If you’re interested in joining the Nerd Herd, come from 2:10-3:30 pm. Elections this week! See Ms. Deon for more information.

13. The VFW in Dover is offering two scholarships for students at Dover Middle and High School. The “Voice of Democracy” is open to students in grades 9-12. The theme is “My Vision for America.” The “Patriot’s Pen” contest is available to students in 6, 7, and 8th grades. The theme is “What Freedom Means to Me”. The deadline for both essays in November 1st. Pick up applications and information in the high school guidance office.

14. The 13th Annual Black College Fair will be held on Thursday, September 24th from 6-8 pm at Poughkeepsie High School. The event will be held in the cafeteria. Stop by the guidance office if you have any questions.

15. SAT Word of the Day is ABHOR. The word means hate.

16. Any high school student interested in earning Community Service hours to help out at Open House this Thursday, please sign up in the high school main office.

17. There will be the first meeting of Foreign Language Club on Tuesday, September 22nd during 5th period. It will tell about plans for the year for the club. In interested in new cultures and travel, consider joining.
