PRESS RELEASE

The New York State Police announce the arrests of Steven J. Doss, and his wife Loretta D. Doss, both age 46, for failure to provide proper care for their animals following the investigation of a citizen complaint.  On September 1, 2015, search warrants were executed at the Doss residence in the City of Port Jervis, and a farm leased by the Doss family in the Town of Minisink.  At the farm, police discovered 48 rabbits, three horses, three cows, three goats, a pot-bellied pig, a dog, and a cat that were not properly cared for.  The dog and cat were brought to a local veterinary hospital for treatment for illnesses.  The remaining animals were removed to local animal shelters.  At the residence, a snapping turtle was found and removed.  Both Mr. and Mrs. Doss were issued appearance tickets to appear in Town of Minisink Court on September 21st at 5:00 PM and released.  They were also ticketed for possessing a snapping turtle in violation of the Environmental Conservation Law.  Police were assisted by the New York State Environmental Conservation Police, the Humane Society of Port Jervis and Deerpark, Port Jervis Animal Control, the Port Jervis Building Inspector, Farm Sanctuary, and Pets Alive, an animal sanctuary in Middletown.
