Fatal Motor Vehicle vs. Pedestrian Accident

Putnam County Sheriff Donald B. Smith reports a fatal motor vehicle vs. pedestrian accident occurred at approximately 9:36 a.m. today in the parking lot of the Putnam County Savings Bank at 2477 Route 6 and Drewville Road in the Town of Southeast.

A preliminary investigation by members of the Sheriff’s Department revealed that an elderly Putnam Lake woman was walking across the bank parking lot when a 66 year old male identified at Thomas Hunt backed out of a parking space and struck the elderly woman causing her to fall to the pavement. The vehicle then ran over the victim. Mr. Hunt, a Town of Southeast resident was operating a 2008 Ford Ranger 4×4 pickup truck. Members of Brewster Fire Department and Ambulance Corp. along with Transcare Medics responded. The victim was transported to Putnam Hospital Center where she was later pronounced dead. The identity of the victim has not been released pending the notification of family members.

Sheriff’s Department Patrol members, the Accident Reconstruction team, and the BCI Forensic and Identification unit were assisted at the scene by the New York State Police. The operator of the vehicle was transported to Putnam Hospital Center for observation, the investigation into the accident continues.
