Newburgh Man Arrested for Punching Mentally Handicapped Man in his Care

PRESS RELEASE

The New York State Police at Middletown announce the arrest of James Damey, age 25, of Newburgh, NY, subsequent to an investigation conducted by the Bureau of Criminal Investigation. Damey is accused of punching a 36 year-old mentally handicapped male who was under his supervision while the victim was recovering from surgery at Orange Regional Medical Center in Middletown. At the time of the incident, Damey was employed by an agency that provides residential services to the mentally handicapped in Sullivan County. He no longer works for that agency. Damey was arrested on August 16th, 2015, and charged with Endangering the Welfare of a Physically Disabled Person in the first degree, a felony, and Assault in the third degree, a Misdemeanor. Damey was issued an Appearance Ticket to appear in Town of Wallkill Court on September 8th, 2015 at 2:00 PM.
