Peekskill man charged with unlawfully collecting unemployment benefits

PRESS RELEASE

Peekskill, New York – On August 12, 2015, New York State Police Bureau of Criminal Investigation from the Cortlandt barracks arrested 35-year-old Wagner Alava-Giler of Peekskill, New York, for Offering a False Instrument for Filing 1st Degree and Falsifying Business Records 1st Degree, both Class E Felonies.

Alava-Giler’s arrest is subsequent to a joint investigation conducted by the New York State Department of Labor Special Investigation Division and the New York State Police.

Alava-Giler is accused of unlawfully collecting in excess of $7,400 worth of unemployment benefits.  He certified that he was unemployed when he was in fact working.

Alava-Giler was issued appearance tickets and was directed to appear before the City of Peekskill Court on August 17, 2015 at 11:00 a.m.
