Bedford, New York – On August 9, 2015, New York State Police Bureau of Criminal Investigation from the Somers barracks arrested 31-year-old Daquan D. Smith of New Milford, Connecticut, for Reckless Endangerment 1st Degree, a Class D Felony, Unlawfully Fleeing a Police Officer in a Motor Vehicle, a Misdemeanor, Aggravated Unlicensed Operation 2nd Degree, an unclassified Misdemeanor, and Driving While Ability Impaired by Alcohol.

Troopers monitoring traffic traveling on Interstate 684 observed a Nissan Altima traveling in excess of 80 miles an hour.  With emergency lights and sirens activated, the patrol attempted to stop the speeding vehicle.  The driver of the Nissan, later identified as Smith, continued to travel northbound failing to comply with police.

As Smith continued at a high rate of speed, he almost struck two troopers on a separate traffic stop, forcing them to dodge the suspect vehicle.

The suspect vehicle exited I684 at Exit 6a and lost control of his vehicle, striking a guide rail.  Smith was taken into custody without further incident.  Smith was the sole occupant of the fleeing vehicle and was not injured as a result of the crash.

Smith provided a breath sample that revealed a Blood Alcohol Content of .06%.  He was arraigned before the Town of Bedford Court and remanded to the Westchester County Jail in lieu of $10,000 cash bail or $50,000 bond.  He is scheduled to return to the Town of Bedford Court on August 13, 2015.
