A Midsummer Night’s Dream in Copake

 

COPAKE, NY – The Copake Memorial Park will be the scene of merriment and magic Saturday, August 15thwhen players with The Two of Us Productions/RARE Inc. present their adaptation of A Midsummer Night’s Dreamat at 5pm.
This adaptation of William Shakespeare’s play has been written exclusively for RARE, Inc., featuring comic theatrical appearances by Shakespeare himself, along with Christopher Marlowe, the founder of English drama believed by some scholars to be the true author of Shakespeare’s works.
As the two battle to control the action and lay claim to the story, the beloved centuries-old tale of lovers, fairies and all the mischief and absurdity that follows when they meet in the woods on a summer’s night, unfolds in modern times.
The show will be held by the picnic pavilion, is free of charge and open to all.
This Two of Us Productions/RARE Inc. show follows its recent production of Jesus Christ Superstar, winner of six Theater Association of New York State (TANYS) awards. Stephen Sanborn, director of AMidsummer Night’s Dream, received an award for Outstanding Musical Direction and Conducting.  Constance Lopez was awarded for Excellence in Acting Performance for her role as Judas and will be appearing as Puck in the August 15th show.
Other recent award winners, most of whom will appear at the Copake park, were: Dan Galliher, Meritorious Award for Vocal Direction; Betsy Rees, Excellence in Acting Performance for her role as Mary; Brian Yorck, Meritorious Acting Performance for his role as King Herod; and Joseph Alvarez, Meritorious Vocal Performance for his role as Jesus.
The Two of Us Productions/RARE Inc. is already working on its fall production of Next To Normal, to be held October 9th – 18th at the Performing Arts Center at Taconic Hills High School.
