Millbrook – Emmett Edward BeCoates, 77 of Millbrook, died on July 11, 2015 at MidHudson Regional Hospital, Poughkeepsie.

Born on May 23,1938 in Fayetteville, NC, he was the son of Andrew L. and Larvenia P. Smith BeCoates.

Emmett graduated from Millbrook Memorial High School in 1957. He served in United States Army and worked in the Defense Missile Operations Field while stationed in Germany and other locations in the U.S. After his military duty was ended he worked as a lineman for the Central Hudson Gas & Electric Corporation for 33 years.

He played softball locally for many years, a sport he thoroughly enjoyed. He also made lots of cross country travels on his motorcycle, a joy of his life. On his quite side, Jazz music was the great joy of pleasant moments in his life. He was a man quick wit and if you didn’t catch on you’d be left behind. Emmett was well versed in current events and was quick to share his latest opinion of occurrences and welcomed your rebuttal.

To know Emmett was to know and enjoy his brilliant mind and exceptional memory, as he was well read and versed in many, many areas. The wise individuals never challenged him twice with a New York Times cross word puzzle.

He is survived by his sister Marian Jessie(Phoenix, AZ.)and Andrew Lee BeCoates, Millbrook,N.Y., several nieces: Sina Embler, Beacon, New York, Lisa BeCoates, Poughkeepsie, N.Y. and Celia Smoot,Washington, D.C., also, many, many great nieces and nephews. He will be forever missed by all that knew him throughout their lives and will cherish joyful memories of him.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, July 18 from 12 noon to 2 pm at, 3270 Franklin Ave., Millbrook.

Interment will follow in Nine Partners Cemetery, Millbrook.
