Trooper entrapped in car during pursuit

 

 

NEW MILFORD — A New York State Trooper and Rocky Hill man were entrapped in their respective vehicles Saturday after colliding with a utility pole on Kent Road during a police pursuit according to the NYSP.

The New Milford Police department responded to the area of 764 Kent Road Saturday about 10:17 p.m. after receiving a request for assistance from a New York State Trooper from the Dover Barracks. The NYSP  trooper was pursuing an evading speeder, police said.

The evading vehicle, a 2005 tan Subaru Forester driven by William Lester, 23, of Rocky Hill, crashed into a guard rail at the intersection of Route 55 and Kent Road (Route 7), continued without stopping and crashed again into a utility pole bringing the pole and live wires down on his and the trooper’s vehicle, accoding to police .

Gaylordsville and Kent volunteer fire departments as well as EMS responded to the scene. The NYSP trooper and Lester left their vehicles after electrical utility turned off electrical power to the lines.

Kent Road was closed at Grove Road until 11:54 p.m. Lester was taken to Danbury Hospital emergency room where he was treated and released, according to Dover Barracks.

New Milford police charges against Lester were evading responsibility. He was released on a written promise to appear in Superior Court in Bantam on July 17.

New York state has not yet pressed charges, according to Dover Barracks.
