Bronx Man Faces Felony Drug Sale Charges

Putnam County Sheriff Donald B. Smith reports the arrest of a Bronx man on felony charges of possession and sale of narcotics.

Members of the Putnam County Sheriff’s Department Narcotics Enforcement Unit (NEU) recently developed information that Bronx resident Victor Cerda, age 53, was selling large amounts of narcotics to drug dealers in the area. An undercover member of the NEU, posing as a drug dealer, made arrangements to purchase a large quantity of heroin from Cerda. On June 27, 2015 at approximately 7:45 p.m., the undercover officer purchased a large quantity of heroin from Mr. Cerda at a parking lot in the Town of Southeast. Mr. Cerda was taken into custody by members of the NEU with the assistance of members of the Bureau of Criminal Investigation and the Patrol Division. Mr. Cerda was arrested and charged with Criminal Sale of a Controlled Substance in the First Degree and with two counts of Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in the Third Degree, felonies. The defendant was arraigned before Town of Southeast Justice Richard Vercollone and remanded to the Putnam County Correctional Facility without bail pending a future court appearance.

If found guilty of the most serious felony charge, the defendant could face up to 25 years in a New York State Correctional Facility and a fine of up to $100,000.00.
