Former Union Vale man charged with unlawfully collecting unemployment benefits

Union Vale, New York – On June 18, 2015, New York State Police from the Poughkeepsie barracks arrested Nicholas Mercorelli, 51 years old, of Greenfield, Massachusetts, for Grand Larceny 3rd Degree, a Class D Felony, Offering a False Instrument for Filing, a Class E Felony, and Falsifying Business Records 1st Degree, a Class E Felony.

The arrest is the result of a joint investigation conducted by the New York State Department of Labor Special Investigation Division and the New York State Police.

Mercorelli, formerly of Union Vale, is accused of unlawfully collected over $10,900 worth of unemployment insurance benefits between February of 2011 and October of 2011.  False business records were generated by Mercorelli when he certified weekly that he was totally unemployed when in fact he was gainfully employed.

Mercorelli was arraigned before the Town of Union Vale Court and remanded to the Dutchess County Jail in lieu of $5,000 cash bail or $10,000 bond.  Mercorelli is due to re-appear in the Town of Union Vale Court on July 1, 2015.
