Millerton – Marie C. Tanner-Whyman, 88, a fifty five year resident of Millerton, NY,formerly of Ancram, NY, died Thursday, June 11, 2015 in Millerton with her loving family by her side. Marie worked at Wassaic Developmental Center in Wassaic, NY, from October 28, 1957 until her retirement on February 28, 1988. She began her career as a direct care aide which led her to a position in environmental services.
Born July 16, 1926 in Ancram, she was the daughter of the late Ellwood O. and Ethel (Hoysradt) Cade. On November 4, 1966 in Ancram, she married John R. Tanner. Mr. Tanner died October 28, 1971. On July 13, 1973 in Cadyville, NY, she married William W. Whyman. Mr. Whyman died June 3, 1994.
Marie was a member of the Millerton Presbyterian Church and was an avid reader and enjoyed crossword puzzles, knitting, traveling, gardening, country music and going to casinos. However her favorite thing to do was spend time with her loving family. She will be greatly missed by everyone who knew and loved her.
Marie is survived by her two daughters, Verna J. Ahders of Dickinsen Center, NY and Lynn E. Cahill of Millerton, five grandchildren; Robert A. Snyder (Dorothy)of Chateaugay, NY, John A. Snyder (Lynn) of Amenia, NY, Tammy M. Farrell of Chateaugay, Lesa Farrell of Millerton and John E. Cahill(Cynthia) of Tivoli,NY, twelve great grandchildren; Zachariah, Jeremiah, Adam, Briana, Kayla and Casandra Snyder, Erica Finkle, Bowie LaRock, Charity and Jasmine Farrell-Plet, Nicholas and Brandon Cahill and two step great grandchildren, Alexis and Samantha Williamson, her brother, Herbert Cade (Barbara) of Claverack, NY, two sisters; Barbara Rodriquez (Carlos) of Highland, NY and Catherine Spaulding of Millerton and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and husbands, Marie was predeceased by her great granddaughter Elizabeth Snyder, a son in law, John E. Cahill, Sr., her brothers, John Ashman and Oliver “Sonny” Cade and her sister Marcella Wilson.
Calling hours will be held on Saturday, June 20, 2015 from 9:00 to 10:30am at 37 Park Avenue, Millerton, NY 12546. Funeral services will take place at 11am at the Millerton Presbyterian Church, 58 Main Street, Millerton, NY. Rev. Zora Ficarra-Cheatham will officiate. Burial will follow at Irondale Cemetery, Millerton, NY. Memorial contributions may be made to the Millerton Fire Company, P.O. Box 733, Millerton, NY 12546.
