DWI Checkpoint Nets Cocaine Arrest

Luis E. Padilla, 43 of Claverack NY
On May 29, 2015 into May 30th the New York State Police Troopers of Troop K conducted a DWI Traffic Safety Checkpoint in the Town of Greenport.
During the checkpoint Luis E. Padilla was observed operating his pickup truck on SR-23 at approximately 12:20 am on May 30. As the vehicle approached the checkpoint, Troopers observed the operator identified as Padilla with a clear bag containing a white powder in it laying on his lap.
The operator was directed to park the vehicle and prior to exiting he attempted to disgard the bag.
Padilla was taken into custody and charged with Tampering with Evidence, a Class E felony and Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance 4th, a Class C felony.
He was arraigned in the Town of Greenport court in front of Hon. Judge Robert Brenzel. Padilla was remanded to the Columbia County Jail without bail. He is set to return to court on 6/1/15 at 3:00 pm.
