Bridge to be Replaced on Stanford Road in Washington

Poughkeepsie…The Dutchess County Department of Public Works (DPW) has announced work to replace a bridge on Stanford Road in the Village of Millbrook and Town of Washington is set to begin on or about May 1st. The bridge, located over the East Branch Wappinger Creek near Dineen Road, will be replaced to ensure the safety and stability of the bridge and roadway. During construction, Stanford Road will be closed at the bridge site with a detour posted along Franklin Avenue and Sharon Turnpike (State Route 44). View a map of the detour.

Project work will involve replacing the structure with a new, wider bridge that will include four-foot shoulders. The project is expected to be complete, with the road and bridge open to traffic, by this fall.

This section of Stanford Road averages approximately 725 vehicles per day.

Motorists are advised to plan for additional time and to exercise extra caution near the construction site and on the detour, obey the posted speed limits, traffic advisory signs, and the directions from flaggers near the work zone to ensure the safety of workers and other motorists.
