Obituary, Edward S. Delapena, Sr.

Edward S. Delapena, Sr., (75), a longtime resident of Amenia, NY, passed away on Thursday, Feb. 1, 2024 peacefully at his home. Mr. Delapena worked in a variety of positions throughout the years at Tri-Wall in Wassaic, Grand Union in Amenia, Trotta’s in Millerton, and the Webutuck Central School District in Amenia.

Born on March 1, 1948, in Manhattan, NY, he was the son of the late Zoila and Evelyn (Kimmel) Delapena. He was an honorary 3rd Degree member of the Knights of Columbus and was awarded the Amenia Lions Club’s Citizen of the Year in 2019.

One of nine children, Ed came to Amenia at the age of 18. He was very well known in the Amenia community for helping others, especially the elderly, with acts of kindness inspired by the generosity he learned from his mother while growing up. He routinely collected recyclables and donated the proceeds to local charities and children’s organizations.

He is survived by his son, Edward S. Delapena, Jr., and his companion, Kayla Valyou of Millerton, NY as well as four grandchildren: Ashley, Maxwell, Libbie and Lillian Delapena.

Calling hours will be held from 4 to 6 p.m. on Tuesday, February 6, 2024 at Hufcut Funeral Home, 3159 Route 22, Dover Plains, NY. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, February 7, 2024 at Immaculate Conception Church, 4 Lavelle Rd., Amenia, NY. Interment will be private and at the convenience of the family.
