Neil F. Kroener, 78, a resident of Holmes, NY for 26 years, passed away at his home on Sunday, January 14, 2024, surrounded by his loving family.

Previously of Patterson, NY, Neil was born in the Bronx on March 9, 1945, to the late Elmer and Hazel (Isack) Kroener. His wife of 37 years, Gail (Marks) Kroener, survives at home.

Neil was a surveyor for Local 15D in NYC. He was an outdoor enthusiast who especially loved fishing, hunting, and archery. He was an exceptional carpenter and woodworker; he can be seen on YouTube playing guitars that he crafted, and singing songs that he wrote.  Neil learned to make guitars in California in the 70s and became a gifted luthier under the tutelage of the world-known Bozo Podunavac.

From 1969-1971, Neil proudly served his country in the US Marine Corps, training at Camp Lejeune, Jacksonville, NC.

In addition to his wife, Gail, he is survived by two sons, Kane and wife Gleish of New Milford, CT and Casey and wife Samantha of Poughkeepsie, NY; a sister, Lynn Hornsby of Phoenix, AZ; two grandchildren, Sydney and Corey, both of Poughkeepsie; a niece, Laurie Kuitunen of Phoenix and two nephews, Scott Kuitunen, also of Phoenix, and Kyle Hoellman of Poughkeepsie; and many, many friends.

Family and friends may pay their respects on Saturday, January 20th from 4-7 PM at the Horn & Thomes, Inc. Funeral Home, 83 East Main Street, Pawling; a memorial service will be conducted at the funeral home at 6:30 PM.
