Obituary,Donald Edward “Ike” Hewlett

Donald Edward “Ike” Hewlett, 92, a three-year resident of Middleburg, PA, formerly a longtime resident of Dover Plains, NY, died on Friday, December 22, 2023, at home surrounded by his loving family. Mr. Hewlett was a dairy herd improvement supervisor for 57 years with the Northeast Dairy Herd Association in Millbrook, NY.

Born on March 11, 1931 in Poughkeepsie, NY, he was the son of the late Marshall Isaac Hewlett and Abigail Marshall Pectle Hewlett. He was a graduate of Arlington High School Class 1949 in Poughkeepsie, NY and in 1951, he graduated from Delhi Agricultural and Technical College in Delhi, NY. On August 25, 1957 at the Dover Plains United Methodist Church in Dover Plains, NY, he married Shirley Benson who survives at home.
Mr. Hewlett was a member of the Stone Church Grange in Dover Plains, NY and the Christian Missionary Alliance Church in Lagrangeville, NY.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by two daughters, Suzann Faughnan and her husband, Kevin, of Lewisburg, PA and Deborah Nilsen and her husband, Arthur, of Terceira, Azores; a son, Donald L. Hewlett and his wife, Shirley, of Mifflinburg, PA; two sisters, Ella Mae Hampson of Antioch, TN and Barbara Bontempo of Littleton, CO. He is also survived by 10 grandchildren, Stephen Finley, Eric Faughnan, Daniel Nilsen, Tyler Faughnan, David Hewlett, Rebekah Nilsen Ocheing, Benjamin Nilsen, Abigail Hewlett McMillen, Brianna Faughnan Pentek and Sarah Nilsen Ghavami and 9 great grandchildren.

Besides his parents, he was predeceased by a daughter, Nancy Lynn Hewlett.

Calling hours will be held from 10 to 11 a.m. on Friday, December 29, 2023, at Hufcut Funeral Home, 3159 Route 22, Dover Plains, NY. Funeral services will follow at 11 a.m. at the funeral home with Rev. Donald L. Hewlett officiating. Burial will follow at Valley View Cemetery, Dover Plains, NY. Following the burial, there will be a reception at the V.F.W. Post #5444, 3422 Route 22, Dover Plains, NY. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in the name of Ike Hewlett to Mifflinburg Alliance Church, 80 Church Rd., Mifflinburg, PA 17844.
