Movie and Soup Night event

COPAKE—The next Movie and Soup Night event in the ongoing Grange Classic film series is “In the Heat of the Night,” to be shown in conjunction with Martin Luther King Day, Sunday, January 14 at 3:30 to 7 p.m.

The event takes place at the Copake Grange #935, 628 Empire Road. After the movie stay for community conversation and a dinner of soup (vegetarian options available), salad and dessert. Admission to the movie is by donation. The optional dinner is $10.

This 1967 mystery drama, directed by Norman Jewison, stars Sidney Poitier and Rod Steiger. In the film, a Black Philadelphia police detective is wrongly accused of a local murder while passing through a racially hostile Mississippi town. After being cleared, he is reluctantly asked by the white police chief to solve the case. Lee Grant and Warren Oates round out the cast and the music is by Quincy Jones. The film was nominated for seven Academy Awards. Lenny Barham will introduce the film and lead the discussion after.
