Obituary, Norman R. Cayea

Norman R. Cayea, 93 a longtime resident of Amenia, NY, passed away on Tuesday, December 26, 2023, at his home in Amenia with his loving family by his side. Mr. Cayea retired from Taconic DDSO as the Director of Nursing after 39 years of service.

Born on February 19, 1930 in Altona, NY, he was the son of the late Wilfred and Ida (Miller) Cayea. Mr. Cayea was a graduate of Ellensburg High School, received an A.A.S. Degree in Nursing from DC Community College and later graduated Magna Cum Laude, with A Bachelor of Science Degree in Community Health from NYIT. Mr. Cayea proudly served in the US Army during the Korean Conflict from 1951-1953. On July 26, 1981 in Dover Plains he married Carol Monette who survives at home.

Mr. Cayea was Past President and Zone Chair of the Amenia Lions Club. He served as a Town Councilman in Amenia from 2007-2011; serving on many town committees such as: CAC, Emergency Response and Waste Water. Mr. Cayea was a member of the Town of Amenia ZBA from 1994-2007. He was also a member of the Town of Amenia Republican Committee. Mr. Cayea was a member of the “After School Boys” club which was active in the Indian Rock School House project restoration. He was a parishioner of Immaculate Conception Church in Amenia and served as an usher and cook when they had functions. He was also a member of Amenia Fish and Game.

In addition to his loving wife, Mr. Cayea is survived by a daughter, Patti Cayea of Wassaic, NY, and three sons, Michael Cayea and his wife, Rhonda, of Pine Plains, NY, John Cayea of Dover Plains and John Connor and his wife, Elizabeth, of Anderson, Indiana. He is also survived by a sister, Luella Weed of Alexandria, VA; six grandchildren, Sean Cayea, Alyssa Menegat, Chad Cayea, Victoria Menegat, McKayla Connor, and Ace Cayea and three great-grandchildren, Olivia Cayea, Ian Tyler Cayea, and Joseph Rich Cayea.

Besides his parents, Mr. Cayea was predeceased by two brothers, Howard and James Cayea, and a great-granddaughter, Maci Jane Cayea.

Calling hours will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. on Friday, December 29, 2023, at the Hufcut Funeral Home, 3159 Route 22, Dover Plains, NY. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. on Saturday, December 30, 2023, at Immaculate Conception Church, 4 Lavelle Road, Amenia, NY with Rev. R. Kent Wilson officiating.
