Obituary, Dr. Neil Victor Salzman

Dr. Neil Victor Salzman, 83, a longtime area resident, died on Tuesday, November 14, 2023, at Vassar Brothers Medical Center in Poughkeepsie, NY of complications related to Parkinson’s Disease.

Born on October 25, 1940 in Brooklyn, NY, he was the son of the late Sidney and Jean (Feldman) Salzman. Dr. Salzman received both his Master’s and Doctorate Degrees in history and political science at City University of New York in New York City and went on to become a history and political science professor at Fairleigh Dickinson University in Madison, NJ. Alongside his formal academic path, he was a scholar of secular Jewish and Yiddish culture and language. He was a member of the Ralph T. Waterman Bird Club and the Parkinson’s Disease Support Group of the Mid-Hudson Valley.

On September 6, 1986, he married Dr. Robin Flam who survives at home. In addition to his wife, he is survived by three sons, Aram Salzman and his wife, Maria, of Concord, MA; Noah Salzman and his wife, Smadar, of San Francisco, CA and Gabriel Salzman and his wife, Emily, of Palo Alto, CA; a brother and sister-in-law, Alvin and Gail Salzman of Fairfield, VT and four grandchildren, Isaac, Ella, Haggai and Eden Salzman.

Besides his parents, he was predeceased by a brother, Leonard Salzman.
