Margaret Elizabeth “Betty” Murray, a lifetime resident of Pawling, NY passed away peacefully at her home  Friday morning, October 27, 2023.

Betty was born in Poughkeepsie, NY on December 6, 1934 to Miriam Perrin and John Clark, Sr.

Betty was predeceased by her beloved husband of 57 years, Frank J. Murray.  She is survived by her sister Althea Clark King; Pawling, NY; daughter Marcia M. Jones of Brookhaven, GA; son Clark J. Murray (Trish) of East Greenwich, RI; daughter Susan B. Kyriacou (Kyriacos) of Poughkeepsie, NY; grandchildren Peter Jones (Amy); Megan Hilley (Matt); Ian, Brendan (Naomi), Catherine, Hannah, Joseph and Claire Murray; Christo Kyriacou (Analise), Elizabeth Morey (Trevor), and Kyriacos Kyriacou (Maddie); and great-grandchildren Blair and Brooke Hilley; Walker, Emerson, and Chase Jones; Grace Murray; Kennedy Murray; Jack and Wes Kyriacou; Henry, Trevor, and Elsa Morey; and Frankie Kyriacou.

Betty graduated from Pawling High School in 1952 after which she attended the Berkeley School in White Plains, NY.  Following employment with New York Telephone and Clark Electric, she worked for the Foundation for Christian Living for 25 years retiring in 1992 as Director of Human Resources.  She was a lifelong and devoted parishioner of St. John the Evangelist Church and volunteer counting the weekly offering; a member of the Catholic Daughters; a past member of the Pawling Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary; and a volunteer at the Pawling Chamber of Commerce.

An avid sports fan Betty especially enjoyed following professional tennis.  She loved playing cards whether with the Card Ladies group for their weekly get-together or with her grandchildren at family gatherings. She cherished knitting blankets for her grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and friends. Betty enjoyed country music but most of all she loved baking “Grandma Betty’s” famous chocolate chip cookies for all family events. Following her retirement Betty and Frank enjoyed their winter stays in New Smyrna Beach, FL, traveling, and spending time with family and friends.

Betty was a loving, caring, and loyal mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, friend, and a faithful and devout Catholic who will be missed by many.

Family and friends may pay their respects at the Horn & Thomes, Inc. Funeral Home, 83 East Main Street, Pawling, NY 12564 on Thursday, November 2, 2023, from 4-7 PM.  The Catholic Daughters will conduct a service at 4:30 PM and the Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary at 6:30 PM.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, November 3, 2023, at 11:00 AM at St. John the Evangelist, 39 E. Main Street, Pawling, NY 12564.  Directly following the Funeral Mass burial will be in St. John’s Cemetery, 1 East Street, Pawling, NY 12564.
