Carmel Social Media Threat

Carmel Social Media Threat

Dear Carmel Community,

We are very mindful that some social media posts can been very concerning, especially for our students. I am writing to you today to inform you of such a post or series of posts.

We are aware of disturbing messaging on social media and in the news regarding the organization Hamas targeting the Jewish community at large. There are no specific, credible threats to schools, although the posts mention October 13. It is important to remember that these threats have not been deemed as credible and do not specifically mention Carmel. We are working closely with local law enforcement who are monitoring the situation and will inform us if new details emerge, which of course, I will share.

The safety of Carmel students and staff is always our top priority. We are vigilant every day, but tomorrow we will be hypervigilant as will the officers at all our schools.

Here’s how parents can help: be attentive to your children’s activity on social media. Horrific videos and graphic images are easy to come across on TikTok, Instagram and other platforms. The messages, whether real or fake, can make children very anxious.

If you have any concerns about your children, please reach out to their schools. Our staff and counselors are available if any of the children need to speak with someone. We are here to help.

Sincerely,
Joseph McGrath
Interim Superintendent of Schools
