Obituary, Julio (Jay) Morales

Julio (Jay) Morales passed away peacefully at home in his sleep on Saturday, September 23, 2023, after a long-fought battle with kidney failure. He was 77.

Born in Arecibo, PR on January 13, 1946, he was the son of the late Julio Morales, Sr. and Amparo (Alvarez) Morales and husband of Michelle Farnum Morales of Pawling; he graduated from Hunter College where he received his Bachelor’s Degree.

For three decades, Jay was a talented art director and creative director for DDB (Doyle Dane Bernbach) and won major industry awards for many great advertising campaigns including: Amtrak, Atari, American Airlines.

 

Jay loved cooking, model trains, and cars, and collected art, fine wines and Cavalier King Charles Spaniels.  He was a swimmer, an avid fly fisherman and loved playing croquet.  He was active in the Pawling Community and VP of the Pawling Chamber of Commerce.

“He was a fantastic human being, immensely creative, whip-smart and wise, who brought out a fascinating curiosity, A gentleman and a professional, Jay exuded a quiet strength and was always unassuming. The world lost a gem and he will be sorely missed. Rest in peaceful slumber, Jay” said his creative partner and friend of 30 years, Alvin Martinez.

Jay is survived by his wife Michelle of Pawling and brother Joe N. Morales and his wife Patricia of New Milford, CT.

A memorial service is planned for a later date.
