Obituary, Rose Maureen Bissonette

Rose Maureen Bissonette, 87, a long-time resident of Holmes, NY, passed away at her home Monday, August 14, 2023 surrounded by her loving family.

Born in Middlesex, England on August 16, 1935, she was the daughter of the late George and Dorothy (Stebbeds) Turner.  Rose served in the Women’s Royal Naval Service (WRNS, also known as Wrens)) in the Queen’s Navy in England during WWII.  She married John Bissonette in New Market, England on August 18, 1956; John predeceased her on May 26, 2005.

Rose worked as a secretary for the Peale Center in Pawling.

Rose belonged to the Whaley Lake Civic Center, and loved playing Bingo and the slots, and knitting for family and friends.

In addition to her husband and parents, Rose is predeceased by her daughter Kim Lori Bissonette who passed away in 1977.

She is survived by her three sons, Dale of North Bangor, NY, John of Holmes, NY, and Alan and his wife Robin of Dover, NY; her daughter Sharon Singley of Locust Grove, GA; 9 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren, and 3 great-great- grandchildren; three brothers-in-law, Bryce of Dannamora, NY and Craig & Dale Bissonette, both of Florida; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Family and friends may pay their respects on Saturday, August 19, 2023, from 4-7 PM at the Horn & Thomes, Inc, Funeral Home, 83 East Main Street, Pawling, NY; a service will be conducted at the funeral home at 6:30 PM.

Burial will be at the convenience of the family.

In lieu of flowers, Rose requested donations in her memory be made to the Dutchess County SPCA, 636 Violet Avenue, Hyde Park, NY 12538 or the American Heart Association.
