County Hosts Second Annual Veterans Appreciation Picnic
Saturday, September 16th

Poughkeepsie…To show gratitude and appreciation to local veterans, Dutchess County Executive William F.X. O’Neil and Division of Veterans Services Director Adam Roche will be hosting the 2nd Annual Red, White, and You! Veterans Appreciation Picnic on Saturday, Sept. 16th from noon to 3p.m. at Camp Nooteeming, located at 22 Camp Nooteeming Road in Salt Point.  This free event is open to local veterans, who may bring one guest each, and will be an afternoon of comradery, food, and music. Registration is required as space is limited and can be submitted at dutchessny.gov/veteranspicnic.  Reservation deadline is Friday, September 8th.

County Executive O’Neil said, “We are happy to host our 2nd annual Veterans Appreciation Picnic to honor our local heroes. I hope many veterans will join us for a day of food, music and most importantly, good company. I look forward to interacting with my fellow veterans while enjoying beautiful Camp Nooteeming.”

The Veterans Appreciation Picnic, held on the scenic grounds of Camp Nooteming, will give veterans the opportunity to interact with other veterans while enjoying barbeque food catered by Tavern 23, available between noon and 2 p.m., and listening to live music from area local county band the StringMasters playing from 12:30 p.m. to 3 p.m.

Veterans Services Director Adam Roche said, “Our second Veterans Appreciation Picnic is right around the corner, and we are look forward to gathering hundreds of local veterans for this exciting event, especially after the success of last year’s picnic.  These men and women put their lives on the line to protect our freedoms and this is a way to say thank you for their sacrifices.”

It takes collaboration to put an event like this together and Dutchess County offers a special thanks to local businesses and volunteers for participating and donating services. In addition to Tavern 23, the County’s Office for the Aging, the Medical Reserve Corps of Dutchess County, Associates Golf & Utility Vehicles, iHeart Media radio personality “Uncle Mike” Hansen and Mental Health America of Dutchess County’s Vet2Vet program are all partnering with Veterans Services to make this event enjoyable for veterans and their guests.

The picnic will take place at the Upper Trail Head at Camp Nooteeming.  Directional signs will be posted to help attendees easily locate the picnic area. Courtesy golf cart rides and limited van shuttles will be available for those physically disabled and in need of assistance getting from the parking lot to the picnic area.
