Are you interested in protecting and serving your community with a career in law enforcement? The next opportunity to take the Dutchess County Deputy Sheriff and Police Officer civil service exam is coming up this fall. The deadline to apply to take the exam is Monday, July 24, 2023. The exam will be administered by the Dutchess County Department of Human Resources on Saturday, September 9, 2023.
Applications will be accepted through July 24th from candidates who have reached or will reach their 18th birthday by September 9. 2023. Candidates must also possess a high school diploma or high school equivalency diploma to be eligible to apply.
Candidates who pass the civil service exam must then successfully pass a physical fitness test, background investigation and medical exam to be added to the eligible list* that is used to fill vacancies as they occur for DEPUTY SHERIFF positions with the Dutchess County Sheriff’s Office and for POLICE OFFICER positions in local municipal law enforcement agencies throughout the county.
*Please note: If you have previously taken the exam and are currently on the eligible list, you must retake the exam to qualify for the new eligibility list.
Once a candidate is appointed to the position of deputy sheriff or police officer, they will be required to complete 60 college credits within five years of appointment and Crisis Intervention Training within two years of appointment.
FREE EXAM PREP COURSES
Interested candidates are strongly encouraged to participate in the Sheriff’s Office free test preparation courses. The next Civil Service Exam Preparation Course is scheduled for Friday, August 18, 2023 from 5-9pm at the City of Beacon Police Department. Additional civil service prep, as well as physical fitness test prep courses, will be scheduled over the coming weeks and will be posted online on the Dutchess County Sheriff’s webpage.
