Betty Hewitt Lates went home to be with her Lord and Savior on June 7, 2023. Betty had been a resident of Holmes NY for over 70 years.
Born in Carmel NY on July 31, 1927, she was the daughter of Ralph and Stella (Odell) Hewitt, and she graduated from Carmel HS June 1944.
Betty worked for a short term at Readers Digest, Pleasantville NY then worked at the veterans service agency in Carmel for several years. During high school years Betty worked at the rationing board in Carmel.
She married Frederick Henry Lates Jr , July 31, 1949, at Kent and Fishkill Baptist Church. Frederick passed away on January 14,1994.
She had been a long-time active member of the Second Kent Baptist Church, and she enjoyed all her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Betty is survived by her two children, Nancy (Don) Delisle who reside in New Fairfield, CT and Frederick III (Wendy) who reside in Beaver Falls, PA.; her son-in-law Rick Ricard of Tennessee; 9 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren.
In addition to her husband, she is predeceased by her daughter, Jean Ricard who passed away in March 2017 and her sister Ruth Hickman.
Family and friends may pay their respects on Saturday, June 17, 2023 at the Horn & Thomes, Inc. Funeral Home, 83 East Main Street, Pawling, NY from 1-3 PM with a funeral service following at 3 PM. Burial will be private.
