State Police are investigating a fatal crash on the Hudson River involving two jet skis

On May 27, 2023, at approximately 2:48 p.m. State Troopers, City of Newburgh Police and Mobile Life EMS responded to a jet ski accident on the Hudson River in the city of Newburgh.

A preliminary investigation revealed that Jorge Arribasplata, age 48 from Saddlebrook New Jersey was operating a 2018 Yamaha Jet Ski with a passenger and David Torres, age 49 from Lodi, New Jersey, was operating a 2017 Yamaha Jet Ski also with a passenger. Both were were traveling north on the Hudson River when they collided with each other. Torres, and his passenger, later identified as Charles Sanchez, age 48 from Belleville, New Jersey were thrown into the river. Local boaters at the marina immediately offered aid and helped to get everyone involved out of the river. Torres and Sanchez were transported to St Luke’s Hospital. Torres is listed in critical condition and his passenger, Charles Sanchez, was pronounced deceased at the hospital. It was confirmed that neither the operators or their passengers had consumed alcohol.

This is an ongoing investigation.
