Obituary, Joseph A. Franco

Joseph A. Franco, 63, a resident of Pawling since 2004, passed away peacefully at his home on Monday, December 19, 2022.

The youngest son of the late Joseph and Ruth (MacArthur) Franco, he was born in Yonkers, NY in 1959. He was raised in Yonkers and Larchmont and married Stacey Haynsworth in Bedford, NY in 1995.

Joe worked as a carpenter, general contractor and property manager. He was a proud Union carpenter, and with his wife, Stacey, established their company, S.A. Haynsworth & Associates after he retired from the Union. He was an expert in antique military toys and had an active eBay business.

Joe made you feel like an old friend the first time you met him. He had a booming voice, an infectious laugh, was quick to smile, and always had a story to share. He was a good listener and loyal friend. He had a remarkable depth of knowledge of military history and politics and loved a good debate. He had a sincere respect and appreciation for the men and women who served in all branches of the military.

He loved animals and was active in the animal rescue community both on the ground and on Facebook. Joe posted “turtle crossing” signs annually on local roads to try to raise awareness and protect nesting turtles and hatchlings.

In addition to his beloved wife, he is survived by his cherished siblings, in-laws, and nieces and nephews. He had a wonderful community of family and friends who will miss him dearly.

A celebration of life will be held in March.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his honor to the Putnam Humane Society (www.puthumane.org), Dutchess County SPCA (www.dcspca.org), or the Hudson Valley Hospice (www.hvhospice.org).
