State Police Liberty arrested a Monticello man for possession of a weapon and attempted murder

On May 20, 2022, State Police Bureau of Criminal Investigation (BCI) from the Liberty barracks arrested Gregory W. Cochran, age 46 from the village of Monticello for an incident that occurred on December 8, 2021, in Monticello.

On December 8, 2021, Cochran was involved in a verbal altercation with an acquaintance. During that argument, the victim secured themselves in a bathroom. Cochran shot through the door and struck the victim in the head. The victim was transported by the suspect and a friend to a local hospital for treatment. After being treated, the victim was transported to Garnet Health Medical Center in Orange County.

On May 20, 2022, the victim came into the State Police barracks in Liberty to report being pistol whipped on May 19, 2022, and the incident that occurred on December 8, 2021.

Gregory Cochran was arrested by the state police outside of his home in Monticello. He was charged with Criminal Possession of a Weapon 2nd degree and Murder 2nd degree (Intention) He was arraigned in the village of Monticello Court in front of Judge Glass. He was remanded to Sullivan County Jail without bail.
