Obituary, John “Mike” J. Shrremetis

John “Mike” J. Shrremetis, 70, of Dolgeville, New York, and formerly of Pawling, New York, passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday, May 11, 2022, at Little Falls Hospital in Little Falls, New York after being stricken at home. At the time of his passing, he had the love and support of his wife, Pam, and his friends by his side.

He was born on August 30, 1951, in Poughkeepsie, New York, and was the son of the late, Daniel and Mary (Bacon) Shrremetis. Mike was educated at Pawling High School and shortly thereafter attended mechanical school for heavy machinery.

Mike was formerly employed as a heavy equipment mechanic for the Local 137, International Union of Operating Engineers of Briar Cliff Manor, New York. He worked many jobs and locations throughout his career. He retired after 40 dedicated years of service to his union.

On December 29, 1984, Mike was united in marriage to Pamela Ann Collins at the Hughsonville Presbyterian Church in Hughsonville, New York. The couple would share 38 years of marriage this year.

Mike was the owner of a race car and operated “Shrremetis Racing”. He raced at Lebanon Valley Speedway for nine years where he excelled at circle track and dirt track racing. He participated in the National Hot Rod Association. Mike also enjoyed elk hunting in Wyoming where he was able to go on three hunting trips. Throughout his years, Mike loved building cars, using his tractor as well as taking care of his home and property that he built with his wife and family in Oppenheim. Mike and Pam also previously enjoyed attending New Hope Church in Dolgeville, New York. He was an all-around fun and kind person and will be dearly missed by his family and friends.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Pamela A. Shrremetis at home; his daughter, Kimberly Jorgensen of Greenwich, CT; a granddaughter, Rachel Finchler, of Greenwich, CT; a brother, Daniel Shrremetis and his wife, Keitha of Danforth, ME; brothers and sisters-in-law, James Collins and his wife, Honey of New Paltz, NY, C. David and Nancy Collins of Wappingers Falls, NY, Edward Collins and his wife, Susan of Poughkeepsie, NY, and Gary Collins and his wife, Donna of Red Hook, NY, many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, cousins, family friends, and the Ploss Families.

Mike was predeceased by his parents and his sister, Catherine Eastwood.

A calling hour will be held on Thursday, May 26, 2022, from 12 p.m. to 1 p.m. at  30 Wolf Street, Dolgeville, New York 13329. A memorial service will be held immediately following the calling hour on Thursday, May 26, 2022, at 1 p.m. also at the funeral home with family friend Pastor Pat Andreoli officiating the service.
