Obituary, Garry S. Mayes

Garry S. Mayes, 79, a 10-year resident of Wingdale, NY, formerly of Holmes, NY, passed away Monday, February 7, 2022, at Putnam Ridge, Brewster, NY.
Born in Croton Falls, NY on November 30, 1942, he was one of 17 children born to the late Fernando and Mildred (Totten) Mayes.  He served in the US Army during Viet Nam from 1959-to 1962.
He married Barbara Ingersol on (?); she survives.
He worked as a heavy machine operator doing excavating with his brother Roger at his brother’s excavating business, Roger Mayes Excavation in Carmel, NY.
He enjoyed hunting & fishing and repairing small engines, and especially enjoyed family get-togethers.
In addition to his wife, Barbara, he is survived by two sons, Garry Mayes, Jr. of Wingdale and Joseph Mayes, Sr. of Pawling; three daughters, Laura Shook, Barbara Middlestat, and Jacqueline Mayes, all of Wingdale; a sister, Judith Ray of Dover; many, many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He is predeceased by his son Malcolm Mayes and daughter Pamela Sluk, and fifteen of his brothers and sisters.
Family and friends may pay their respects Saturday, February 12th from 4-7 PM at the Horn & Thomes, Inc. Funeral Home, 83 East Main Street, Pawling; a funeral service will be conducted at the funeral home at 6:30 PM. Masks are required.
