Obituary, Daniel B. Tompkins

It is with great sadness we announce the passing of Daniel B. Tompkins, 94, peacefully, on January 25, 2022, at Putnam Ridge Nursing Home in Brewster, NY, after a long illness.
Daniel was born on November 20, 1927, son of the late, Briggs and Bertha (Bennett) Tompkins and was raised in Carmel, NY.
He proudly served as a Sergeant in the U.S. Army for three years during World War II while stationed in the South Pacific.  Daniel married the love of his life, Alyce Bosco, on May 16, 1953 (68 years ago), in the original St. James the Apostle Church in Carmel, NY.  They were blessed with two sons Dan and Dave.
Upon his return from the Army, he worked as a Carpenter for various contractors throughout Putnam County and then in the Maintenance Department at Guideposts Associates in Carmel, NY for 25 years.  He was a lifetime member of the Carmel Fire Department.
He loved spending time with his entire family, especially hunting and fishing with his sons and grandson.  Daniel also enjoyed spending many hours working around his home and maintaining his perfectly landscaped yard.
Daniel is survived by his beloved wife Alyce (Bosco) Tompkins, Two loving sons, Dan Tompkins and daughter-in-law, Janet of Pawling, NY, Dave Tompkins and daughter-in-law, Donna of Wallkill, NY.  He was also a cherished and proud grandfather to Jennifer, Heather, Daniel; Jillian and Paige and a very proud great- grandfather of Tyler, Juliette;  Adalynn, Brelynn, Chelsea; William and Nicholas.
Visitation and a Celebration of Daniel B. Tompkins ’s Life, will be held on the same day, from 2:00 P.M. to 6:00 P.M., Sunday, January 30, 2022, at Cargain Funeral Homes, Inc., 10 Fowler Avenue, Carmel, NY.
The Celebration of Life and Funeral Services, will take place at 4:30 P.M., during the visitation.
On Monday, January 31, 2022, from 9:30 A.M. to 10:00 A.M., family and friends are welcome to gather at Cargain Funeral Homes Inc.  Following the service, a graveside ceremony and blessing at 10:30 A.M. will take place at Raymond Hill Cemetery, Carmel, NY.
In lieu of flowers, in Daniel B. Tompkins memory, donations can be made to sponsor a child at the NYSDEC Environmental Education Camp (Camp DeBruce) for Summer of 2022.  Please send all donations to:
The camp donations are handled by the Natural Heritage Trust (https://www.naturalheritagetrust.org/campership-donations).  It is a 501 (c) (3) charitable trust created to receive and administer gifts in support of parks, land and water conservation and outdoor recreation in New York State.  The Natural Heritage Trust works with DEC to administer and raise private funds for the camp program.  Your donation is tax-deductible to the fullest extent of the law.  You may also donate by check using the instructions below.  Funds raised for camperships help underwrite the costs for youth that otherwise would be unable to attend.
