Beekman man charged with assaulting baby

The Dutchess County Sheriff’s Office reports the arrest of Tyler R. Papp, age 24 of Beekman NY, on 1/24/22 in connection with the investigation into the assault of a young baby earlier that evening.

On 1/24/22 at approximately 7:50 pm, Sheriff’s Deputies responded to a residence in the Town of Beekman for a report of a domestic dispute, and upon arrival discovered that a 2-month-old baby had been injured. Mr. Papp had initially fled the scene however was located a short time later, and was taken into custody after further investigation and interviews by Sheriff’s Office Detectives. At this time he is accused of striking the child and causing facial injuries. The baby was initially transported to Mid-Hudson Regional Hospital however was ultimately transferred to Westchester Medical Center for further treatment.

At this time Mr. Papp has been charged with assault in the second degree (felony) and resisting arrest (misdemeanor). After being processed he was arraigned before the Town of Beekman Court and remanded to the Dutchess County Jail in lieu of $5,000 cash bail or $10,000 bond, with a reappearance date of 1/27/22. At this time no further details about the case will be released in order to protect both the privacy of others involved and future court proceedings.

As with any criminal case the charges described above are merely accusations and Mr. Papp is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law. The Sheriff’s Office was assisted at the scene by the New York State Police and Empress Ambulance Service, and more information may be released at a later time as it becomes available.
