Obituary, Kathleen M. Barvinski

Kathleen M. Barvinski, a resident of Putnam Lake, NY, died peacefully on Sunday, January 9, 2022 at her home. She was 83 years old.

Born on January 20, 1938 in Bronx, NY, Kathleen was the daughter of Edward and Mary (Kilroy) Riordan.

Kathleen graduated from Cathedral High School in New York City and went on to receive her Bachelor’s Degree in English from Western Connecticut State University. Kathleen then received her first Master’s Degree in Counseling from Western Connecticut State University and her 2nd Master’s Degree in Religious Education from Fordham University.

On May 25, 1963, Kathleen married the love of her life, Anthony Barvinski in Bronx, NY. Mr. Barvinski died in 2005.

Kathleen was the Director of Religious Education at the Church of the Immaculate Conception in Irvington, NY. Earlier she had worked in the field of mental health.

Kathleen was very involved in her church through the years. Be it in the Bronx or Sacred Heart Church in Putnam Lake, NY. She was a choir member as well. Kathleen was a member of the Putnam Lake Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary. Animal rescue and concerns for animals was paramount to Kathleen as was evident in her love for her dog Millie. Kathleen’s love for her grandchildren was evidenced by the many pictures that adorned her home. They were so very dear to her heart.

Kathleen is survived by her four daughters, Christine Palmer of Florida, Valerie (Steve) Graham of Patterson, NY, Lynne (Lou) Rizzo of Boston, MA and Tara (John) Gurecki of Oxford, CT; and a brother Daniel Riordan of New Jersey. Eleven grandchildren, Richard, Kayleigh, Zachary, Alison, Jamie, Erin, Kelsie, John, Tyler, Emma and Madison, three great granddaughters, Violet, Teagan and Lainey. She was predeceased by a sister Maureen Jacobi and a great granddaughter Adalyn.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, January 14, 2022 10AM at Sacred Heart Church, Putnam Lake, NY. Interment will follow at St. Lawrence O’Toole Cemetery, Brewster. Friends may call at   1 Putnam Avenue, Brewster, NY on Thursday from 4 to 8pm.
