Office for the Aging Opens New Senior
Friendship Center Location in Pleasant Valley

New Tri-Town venue welcomes guests weekdays, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Poughkeepsie, NY … Dutchess County Executive Marc Molinaro announced today the County’s Office for the Aging (OFA) has opened its new Tri-Town Senior Friendship Center at the First Presbyterian Church of Pleasant Valley, located at 1576 Main Street (Route 44) in Pleasant Valley. This is a new location for the former Tri-Town Senior Friendship Center, which had most recently been temporarily located on Hudson Valley Community Center on Grand Avenue in Poughkeepsie.

The Tri-Town center serves seniors from the towns of LaGrange, Pleasant Valley and Poughkeepsie, Monday through Thursday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., offering a daily hot lunch and a variety of free activities for seniors, including arts and crafts, health and exercise programs, Bingo and other games.

County Executive Molinaro said, “Enhancing the lives of Dutchess County seniors is the mission of our Office for the Aging, and we’re pleased to have this new location for our popular Tri-Town Center for residents of LaGrange, Pleasant Valley and Poughkeepsie, providing them an excellent facility in which to socialize, exercise and learn – all with the goal of helping them live independently. We thank the First Presbyterian Church of Pleasant Valley for opening its doors to local seniors, and we look forward to hosting residents in the tri-town area.”

The re-opening of all of OFA’s Senior Friendship Centers is the latest in OFA’s continued efforts to serve seniors throughout Dutchess County, despite the challenges of the pandemic. Over the past year-and-a-half, OFA has modified popular programs and created new opportunities for seniors to safely socialize.

Adapted from its decades-long, sit-down picnics in 2020 to a drive-through model due to the pandemic, the OFA’s modified Drive-Thru Senior Picnic Series served more residents last year than ever before in 2020, and this year’s attendance eclipsed last year’s record mark, with seniors given the option to take their meal home or enjoy it in a congregate setting at the picnic venue, where space was available.

OFA Director Todd Tancredi said, “We’ve been thrilled with the way seniors throughout Dutchess County have responded to the way we’ve adapted how we serve them – from our drive-through picnics, which have served thousands, to innovative events like our drive-in Bingo games. Our Office for the Aging will continue to vary our offerings to fulfill our mission and provide the high-quality programs and services our seniors deserve in the most safe and effective manner possible.”

The Dutchess County OFA plans, coordinates and provides an array of community-based services to the elderly and persons who require assistance in the long-term care system, in an effort to promote independence, dignity and quality of life. OFA offers an array of programming that provides socialization, recreation and fitness opportunities for seniors to remain active and energized. More information about the OFA and its various programs and services is available on its webpage.
