Obituary

Cherie Claire Lydon, 94, a resident of Lutheran Care Center, Poughkeepsie, died on May 8, 2021 at Vassar Brothers Medical Center.

Born on November 30, 1926 in South Williamsport, PA, she was the daughter of the late Clair and Blanche (Heilman) Maneval. On September 14, 1946 in South Williamsport, she married Joseph Patrick Lydon. Mr. Lydon predeceased her on February 2, 2014 after more than 67 years of marriage.

Cherie’s early career was as a portrait photographer and she continued her appreciation of the arts throughout her life. Mrs. Lydon received an honorary degree from Bucknell University in 1950 called a PHT or Pushed Husband Through. She was always active in her churches including First Presbyterian Church of Wappingers Falls, South Amenia Presbyterian Church, and most recently as a member of the choir and bell choir at Lutheran Care Center. Mrs. Lydon was a Girl Scout leader while the family lived in Owego, NY. She was the past president of the Dutchess County Antique Study Club, and had been a member of the Coterie, PEO Chapter BN, and Amenia Senior Citizens. She was an avid bridge player and belonged to many garden and book clubs. Cherie was an active participant in all activities while residing at Geer Village, Canaan, CT and at Lutheran Care Center.

Mrs. Lydon is survived by her son, Michael Lydon and his wife, Margaret, of Hillsborough, NC and two daughters, Cindy Dubinski and her husband, Martin, of Hopewell Junction, and Mary Murphy and her husband, Bill, of Amenia. She is also survived by eight grandchildren: Laura Savenelli (Jason),Bethlehem, PA; Matthew Lydon (Sue), Fort Mill, SC; Jeff Dubinski-Neessen (Michael), Albuquerque, NM; TIffany Lydon Weinreich (Mark) Avon, CO; Ben Dubinski (Nicole), Wappingers Falls; Connor Lynch, Austin,TX; Owen Lynch, Salt Lake City, UT; and Liam Murphy, Amenia. Mrs. Lydon is also survived by eight great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her brother, Leon Maneval and her sister, Phyllis Richner and many close friends.

Mrs. Lydon’s family would like to thank the wonderful staff that made a home for her at Lutheran Care Center. The family also thanks Hudson Valley Hospice and the staff of Vassar Brothers Medical Center, 4North, for their compassion in her last days.

Arrangements are under the direction of Hufcut Funeral Home in Dover Plains, NY. A funeral service will take place at 11 a.m. on Saturday, May 15, 2021 in the Chapel at the Community Mausoleum at Poughkeepsie Rural Cemetery, 342 South Ave., Poughkeepsie, NY.
