Obituary, Mary E. Liffland

Mary E. Liffland, better known as “Dolly” to her family and friends, passed away Sunday, March 28, 2021 at Danbury Hospital, Danbury, CT at the age of 98.

A life-time resident of Pawling, Dolly was born in Brooklyn to the late Joseph and Mary (Santa-Maria) Cavaleri.  She married Sidney Liffland in St. John’s Church, Pawling on July 1, 1947; Sid passed away on April 25, 1972.

Dolly loved being with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, cooking and baking for them.  She was a member of St. John’s Church and the Catholic Daughters.

She is survived by her four sons, Joseph and wife Lisa of Pawling, Michael and wife Colleen of Dover, Sidney of Pawling, and Robert and wife Kelly, also of Pawling; four daughters, Mary Cummings and husband Taren, Janice Peters and husband Daniel, Kay Liffland, and Lori Daddona and husband James, all of Pawling; sixteen grandchildren, twenty-five great-grandchildren with a 26th due to arrive in August; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents and husband, Dolly is predeceased by her two brothers, James and Augustino Cavaleri.

Family and friends may pay their respects on Friday, April 2nd from 4-7 PM at the Horn & Thomes, Inc. Funeral Home, 83 East Main Street, Pawling.  A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday at 11:15 AM at St. John’s Church, Pawling; burial will follow in St. John’s Cemetery.

Masks are required and social distancing observed at all funeral home, church, and cemetery services.
