Fatal Germantown accident

Germantown, New York – On October 2, 2020, the New York State Police from the Livingston barracks began investigating a fatal accident at Taconic Biosciences in the town of Germantown.
At approximately 12:45 p.m., Troopers were dispatched for a serious accident at Taconic Biosciences on Hover Avenue. Germantown Fire Department and Northern Dutchess Paramedics were already on scene assisting the victim, Matthew T. Austin, age 25, of Millbury, MA, who was airlifted to Albany Medical Center by LifeNet. Mr. Austin, unfortunately, succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased at Albany Medical Center.
Investigation revealed Mr. Austin was assisting his co-driver, both employees of BioTrans, loading a 2020 Freightliner tractor-trailer at a Taconic Biosciences loading dock. The tractor-trailer rolled backwards for unknown reasons pinning Mr. Austin between the trailer and the loading dock.
This investigation and the contributing factors remain ongoing.
